Abigail Scott Duniway with first issue of THE NEW NORTHWEST, 1871
The company namesake was inspired by the true story of Abigail Scott Duniway, Great Great Grandmother to founder, Drea Hoffman, and a suffragette in the 1800s who dedicated her entire life to help women attain the right to vote. The company logo emanated from original letters written by Abigail that incorporated the slogan, Yours for Liberty, that she used as her signature during her campaign for equal rights for women. In 1871 Abigail founded and published ‘The New Northwest’, a weekly newspaper dedicated to human rights and issues pertaining to equal rights for women. Abigail traveled cross-country by Stagecoach with the likes of Susan B. Anthony campaigning for the cause.
When Drea was 10 years old her Great uncle, David Cushing Duniway, a historian, gave her a book about Abigail that left her determined to someday tell Abigail’s story. Believing that Abigail’s story should be told, as well as her fascination and love of family history, Drea wrote a feature length screenplay, ‘Yours for Liberty’, based on a true story about Abigail’s life that is an independent feature film currently in development for Liberty Entertainment Group.
